Taking a Step Back...

Sometimes you need to take a step back to see the bigger picture.  North American culture promotes a high velocity in everything we do.  We want our food fast, work needs to be done faster, buying and selling should be fast, information needs to be right now.  As a result, we lose our depth and become 2 dimensional (I have talked about this before on other blogs).  The problem with 2 dimensional people is that they lack character and they seldom do anything outside of what the lizard brain or the rest of society tells them to do.  We are all guilty of this and thanks to our conformist, herd mentality , we don't have to be anything more than 2 dimensional. Taking a step back in life can change your perspective.  You don't need to make earth shattering changes.  My latest change involves my morning shaving ritual.  I've decided to toss the Gillette 5 blade, all singing, all dancing, wonder of technology for this: Yup, that's right, a straight razor .  Those of you

Once upon a time...

"Once upon a time..." All the best stories start that way. So many tales from my carefree youth started that way so why shouldn't my own story embrace that timeless opener? April in 1969... I have no freakin' idea what it was like. For the better part of the month I was stuck in a womb. Well given my situation that's really where I belonged. But as May approached I felt that it was time for a change, I felt that it was time to enter the world. Clearly I had no idea what I was doing and this was a trend that would continue throughout my life. It was a different time in 69 (gee, that has a nice cadence to it :-D). Yup 1969 was home to the summer of love . No idea what that was about but from what I hear this year was a turning point in North American culture.
